[AF-FORUM] 181E FA é uma doença ou sindrome? Dr. Perez Riera
ATRIAL FIBRILLATION SYMPOSIUM

Thank in advance
All the best

> There is disease and signs of disease and its symptoms. The symptoms are
> gathered according to key characteristics. The disease is always a
> union of
> syndromes: syndromes at the level of the organism, related to typical
> pathological process(es) and with a general reaction of the organism
> (e.g.,
> adaptation syndrome, analogous to H. Selye distress); syndromes at local
> level, related to typical pathological process(es) and related to
> functional
> alterations of the organ involved in the pathological process.
> As to point 1) “know etiological agent” and point 2) “identified genetic
> defect”; I see no difference between them, since point 2 is included
> in point
> 1 (when a genetic defect is the etiology). Points 1 and 2 are related
> to the
> necessary condition to define the disease, i.e. the origin of the
> pathological
> findings of the patient. About point 3) “Set of characteristic signs and
> symptoms or compatible anatomic alterations”, these are the symptoms
> and/or
> syndromes. The combination of points 1 and 2 with points 3 and 4) “A
> combination of the previous items” mean the necessary (etiology) and
> sufficient (clinical signs) for a disease. Then, without etiology and
> symptoms, there is no disease. The syndrome is a situation when a set of
> related symptoms has been defined, but the cause is unknown. If we have
> an “AF” syndrome, with unknown etiology, then it is an idiopathic or
